LIHU‘E — Police arrested a 20-year-old man following a robbery in Nawiliwili Thursday evening.
A 42-year-old male visitor was walking through Nawiliwili Park at about 10:50 p.m. with several friends after purchasing items from a shop at the Anchor Cove Shopping Center, states a county press release.
The visitor was then confronted by a group of males, one of whom was John Krause, the release states.
Krause tried to engage the visitor in conversation but when the victim pulled away, Krause attempted to steal the man’s shopping bag. The group of visitors again tried to leave but Krause gave chase, striking another member of the victim’s group and knocking him to the ground.
Krause then stole a bottle of liquor from one of the men, according to the release.
Detectives were conducting an operation in the area and were able to apprehend the suspect shortly after the incident occurred. Evidence was recovered as a result of the investigation and the suspect was positively identified by the victims.
Krause was arrested for second-degree robbery and is currently being held in police cellblock in lieu of $10,000 bail.
Police are continuing their investigation of this incident.
Nawiliwili lately has been the stage for violent incidents.
A large brawl involving 20 males on June 30 around midnight sent two men to the hospital. A 33-year-old man lost several teeth and suffered a dislocated jaw, and a 15-year-old male suffered a laceration above his right eyebrow. About a half-an-hour later a 23-year-old visitor was robbed, apparently at gunpoint, while walking back to the Pride of America from a nightclub.
Anyone with information on any of these cases is urged to call Det. James Rodriguez at 241-1688, Police Dispatch, 241-1711 or Crimestoppers, 241-1887.
