KAPA‘A — The Kaua‘i Police Department is looking for the driver of a white 1985 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that fled the scene of an accident.
The suspect, believed to be Ashley Souza, is also wanted for driving without a valid driver’s license and for accidents involving damage.
A Kapa‘a resident reportedly witnessed the crash Wednesday evening. The truck was traveling eastbound on Kawaihau Road when it drove off the road and slammed into a telephone pole, cracking the pole in half.
The vehicle then reportedly spun around the pole out of control and was sent backwards into a ditch, where it took out a water line and caused damage to several residences before coming to a stop.
The witness said the driver fled the scene and left his passengers to wait for the police. There was no report of any injuries.
The vehicle sustained major front-end damage. Damage to the pole is reported to be over $3,000. KIUC replaced the telephone pole the following day.
The Water Department was also notified.
