LIHU‘E — County officials announced Tuesday that an update on the proposed siting of an adolescent drug treatment center in Lihu‘e will be provided on July 26.
The meeting is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lihu‘e Neighborhood Center, a county news release states.
A panel of experts on treatment for adolescents with a drug addiction will be on hand to answer questions.
“Currently, there are only two residential facilities in the state where youth with drug problems can get help, and both are located on O‘ahu,” said Anti-Drug Coordinator Theresa Koki. “I think we all agree that an adolescent drug treatment center is needed on Kaua‘i, and I hope that the community will attend the next meeting and help us to move this project forward.”
Flyers were distributed and the Anti-Drug Office staff walked house-to-house to inform the Isenberg community about the upcoming meeting.
This is the third in a series of meetings that are planned to continue the discussion on the adolescent drug treatment center. The first was held in February.
To request additional support or an auxiliary aid for the meeting, contact the Anti-Drug Office at 241-4925 or tkoki@kauai.gov at least five days prior to the meeting.
