The public is invited to a free monthly lecture series on the Hawaiian marine environment starting Thursday at the Hanapepe Public Library.
Kupuna Janet Kahalekomo will be the featured speaker in the library’s meeting room between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Kahalekomo, the kupuna at ‘Ele‘ele Elementary School, will be presenting “Pa‘akai: The Tradition of Making Salt in Hanapepe.”
The salt pans of Hanapepe are the only ones of its kind in Hawai‘i and Kahalekomo will share the family tradition of farming salt in these salt pans.
The free monthly series is sponsored by the Friends of Hanapepe Public Library.
