Eighteen firefighters from four stations battled a blaze at the Hanalei Bay Resort for nearly two hours Friday evening. At 5:21 p.m., 911 dispatch received a call of a fire at the resort. Firefighters from the Hanalei Station responded and arrived on scene at 5:33 p.m. to find the resort’s restaurant fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters brought the fire under control at approximately 7:15 p.m., the county said in a statement. The fire was contained to the restaurant, which is currently closed for renovations. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage is not known at this time, the county said. Personnel and equipment from the Kaiakea, Kapa‘a and Lihu‘e stations assisted in the effort. Kaua‘i police officers were also on scene to provide traffic control.
