LIHU‘E — An agent from Sleeping Giant Sotheby’s International Realty and her Alaskan clients are the guest stars of tonight’s episode of “House Hunters” on HGTV.
It’s the first “House Hunters” to be filmed on Kaua‘i, said guest star and real estate agent Kymry Perez, and it will air at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
The episode features Perez’ clients, Eric and Mishelle Nace of Fairbanks, Alaska, on the hunt for a South Shore vacation property.
“Eric and Mishelle want to buy a second home in Hawai‘i for when they and their three kids need a break from the long, dark and freezing winters,” the show’s website says.
“They look at a condo first and soon realize that their modest budget won’t get them much on the beautiful island of Kaua‘i. Something has to give — it’s up to Eric and Mishelle to decide whether that something is going to be their wish list or their budget.”
Perez got involved with “House Hunters” through Twitter.
“The show had been to O‘ahu and Maui but had never been to Kaua‘i,” she said. “The producer put out a tweet that they were looking to do a show here.”
Filming began in June of last year.
“I never had any idea how much work goes into a show like that,” she said. “They filmed a few days here, a few days in Alaska. In all, it was about 10 days of filming for a 30-minute show.”
It is up to the real eastate agent to find the buyer for the show, and Perez recommended the Naces, who were already her clients.
“They had to go through a small audition process,” she said, “and they do get a small fee.”
The couple was planning to buy a vacation rental and thought the program would be a great way to advertise their property.
They bought in Po‘ipu in the Lanai Villas subdivision near the Hyatt.
