LIHU‘E — A wanted Kapa‘a man surrendered to authorities earlier this week, a county press release states.
Akoni Davis, 22, turned himself in at the Lihu‘e police station Monday. He was wanted on one count of failure to appear and two counts of criminal contempt of court. His bail was set at $200,000.
Davis last appeared in Drug Court on Jan. 12. He was scheduled to be in court again on Feb. 9, but failed to appear, the release states.
On an unrelated incident, Davis and Vicente Hilario, 25, were reportedly in a getaway car connected with a shooting robbery in August in the Safeway parking lot in Waipouli.
In that incident, Kyle Akau, 25, was charged with armed robbery, and charges against Davis and Hilario were dismissed without prejudice, meaning they could be brought up again at a later date.
Aureo Moore had been allegedly robbed of $900 in cash, plus 150 oxycodone pills and 50 morphine pills. Both substances are controlled. Moore’s father, Robert Moore, said his son had prescriptions from a Kilauea doctor and had just cashed an insurance reimbursement check.
On Dec. 17 Moore was murdered in broad daylight in the middle of a public road near Anahola Beach Park. He received five .25 caliber shots from behind, two of them to the back of his head.
Hilario has been charged with the crime, and is currently incarcerated at Kaua‘i Community Correctional Facility in Wailua.
