Three Girls 12 and Under and two Boys 14 and Under games at two different sites highlighted Tuesday’s Kaua‘i Youth Summer Basketball program hosted by the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association and the County of Kaua‘i.
Ashley Lucas and Marissa Martinez scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, but Team Lihu‘e came up short 33-29 against Kaulupono-Blue in one of two Girls 12 Under played at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Lauren Lagoc, Schae-Marie Tavita and Jasmine Santella set the pace for the Kaulupono-Blue with eight points apiece in the victory.
But Kaulupono-White did not fare as well, dropping 22-19 to the Kaua‘i Ballers, who got 10 points from Kunani Tuttle and six points from Tori Daligcon-Pomaikai in the second of two games at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Apryl-Joy Grande finished with seven points and China Yasay added six points to lead the Kaulupono-White effort.
The final Girls 12 Under game played out at the Kapa‘a High School gym where Kalau Tanaka-Pesamino, home from school on O‘ahu, netted 10 points to lead the Kamikaze to a 27-16 edge over Hanakila, breaking the North Shore team’s recent string of victories.
Jaliyah Casem finished with 10 points to lead Hanakila.
Junard Mata ended with a game-high 22 points to lead the Kaua‘i Ballers to a 59-12 run over the West Kaua‘i Hornets who got eight marks from Bernny Ned in the first of two Boys 14 and Under matches.
James Stevens finished with a game-high 14 points and Denmark Aladin added 10 points to lead Hanakila to a 50-18 run over Team Lihu‘e, who got 10 points from Lester Acojido.
KYBA and the County host the Boys 17 and Under tournament starting Thursday and running through Saturday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
The next Summer Youth Basketball games take place Saturday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center with four Men 18 and Over games on tap starting at 5 p.m.
Manny’s Sports takes on the Warriors at 5 p.m., followed by H1 and 1 taking on the undefeated Go EZ at 6 p.m. Tropang-L goes up against the Westside Pride at 7 p.m. and the Kaua‘i Ballers meet GEK in the 8 p.m. nightcap.
