Under the direction of Spanish teacher Juliane Kellogg, the members of the Waimea High School Spanish Club voted unanimously to donate $150 to the American Red Cross to go toward relief efforts in Japan.
The club members raised the money by running a game booth at the Waimea Alumni and Friends Foundation carnival in February and had initially planned to donate to Heifer International to aid struggling farmers in South America.
However, after the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan, the club decided the money was more urgently needed there.
The students who participated included John Gawaran, Ace Aceret, Allyson Wright, Arven Bunao, Gerlie Anne Lacerona, Daryl Day Sagucio, Britney Palencia, Amerfil Acob, Rose Ann Lagoc, Bryson Cayaban, Maethelle Batalayan, Joefferlyn Perpose, Denise Albite, Sasha Taroma and Kyla Tipps.
