KAPA‘A — The Kawaihau Community Little League announced its Minors All-Stars Thursday evening.
Players and coaches for the Kawaihau Minors All-Stars then met for their first practice, Friday afternoon at the Main Diamond in the New Kapa‘a Town Park.
“We’re going up there with big targets on our back,” said Mikey Cardinez, the Minors All-Stars head coach and manager. “Last year, we were the true underdogs when we took the Little League District Championship. This year, they’re going to be expecting us.”
The team plays its first game in the District Championships, June 11 on O‘ahu. It leaves Kaua‘i June 10.
Prior to the Little League District Championships, the team will be juggling practice and hosting a series of community fundraisers to help defray expenses for the trip where it will defend its 2010 district title.
Joining Cardinez on the coaching staff are Assistant Coaches Marvin Terada and Dustin Alfiler.
The Kawaihau Minors All-Stars include Kalena Harder, Nainoa Cardinez, Kaenan Lacaden, Cade Halemanu, Isaac Nagahisa, Chayse Basuel, Braden Watanabe, Jai Alapai, Elvis Park, Kysten Alfiller, Brent Terada, Raven Cummings, Levi Cummings and William Swartman.
