There is still time to get involved with the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation golf tournament, being held June 4.
“Whether your support comes in the form of a sponsorship, donation or golf participation, you will be ensuring the KIF can continue to maintain high school athletics at the highest competitive level possible,” said Diane Nitta, KIF secretary, in an email. “All proceeds from the golf tournament go toward supporting KIF member school student athletics.”
The golf tournament will be a three-person scramble format on June 4 at the Kaua‘i Lagoons Golf Club. Scott Ashworth, the Kaua‘i Lagoons Director of Golf, said the KIF golf tournament will be the first tournament to be played on the newly dedicated Kiele Moana 9, featuring the longest ocean stretch in the state.
Registration starts from 6:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
Entry fee is $100 per player and each golfer can purchase up to two mulligans at $10 each. Lunch will be catered from Mark’s Place and Contemporary Flavors Catering.
Prizes will be awarded for Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive, Hole in One for each Par 3 hole. This is in addition to team prizes, which include rounds of golf certificates at courses from around the state, air transportation vouchers and certificates for products and services from community donors.
Three round-trip tickets to Las Vegas contributed by Mokihana Travel is the major prize for a team which places.
Each participant will receive a prize.
“Our mulligan drawing was extremely popular during last year’s tournament and we anticipate the same reception,” Nitta said. “On tournament day, additional mulligan tickets may be purchased for the mulligan drawing which includes prizes like a flat screen television, an iPad, travel and golf vouchers.”
The KIF golf tournament was started in 2010 when budget cuts across the state clouded high school athletic programs.
“We embarked on a journey to raise funds to support our member schools, student athletes and overall sports programs,” Nitta said. “Proceeds from our first-ever KIF golf tournament fundraiser helped cover operational necessities such as transportation, athletic equipment and other supplies.”
Nitta said it was due to the generous contributions from so many which allowed the KIF to continue providing Kaua‘i’s student athletes the opportunities to compete and develop into well-rounded individuals.
