Reservations are recommended when B.J. Penn visits the two locations of Kalapaki Joe’s, Saturday.
Penn will be on the island for the Ultimate Fighting Championship 130, which features Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs. Matt Hamill and Frank Mir vs. Roy Nelson as the main bouts.
Penn is scheduled to be at the Lihu‘e location of Kalapaki Joe’s at 3 p.m. and at the Po‘ipu location at 8 p.m. Reservations can be made by visiting kalapakijoes.com, or by calling 245-6266.
Born and raised on the Big Island, Penn has been a part of the UFC ‘ohana for years and is only the second fighter in UFC history to win titles in two different weight classes.
Penn’s visit is partially to promote the new Penn/UFC Gym in Honolulu, which is scheduled to open in early, or mid-2012.
The opening of the gym marks the first time the UFC is branding a gym with one of its fighters. The gym is being built to help perpetuate the sport of mixed martial arts and also be a positive force in the community by creating programs geared toward the youth of Hawai‘i.
Kalapaki Joe’s is located at the Harbor Mall in Nawiliwili and in the Po‘ipu Kai Resort.
Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard were scheduled to fight, but injuries to both fighters changed the card.
