Lexton Camat blistered the twine for a game-high 16 points and Jacob Dykhouse added nine points as the Hanakila Boys Under 12 soared over the West Kaua‘i Hornets, 61-13 in one of three games Saturday at the Kapa‘a High School gym.
Ardino Ned pocketed nine points to lead the Hornets in the only boys game played during the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association and County of Kaua‘i summer league.
Hanakila, coached by Phil Baclayon, also debuted its Girls Under 12 team.
“We lost,” Baclayon said during the Kapa‘a Green-White game Saturday night. “But the girls had a lot of fun. This is an all-new team and they’re learning.”
Angelica Cudiamat, Jaliyah Casem and Kaehukai Keala each netted six points to lead the Hanakila effort.
“The stands were filled with the girls’ supporters,” said Karen Matsumoto of the KYBA. “That was pretty exciting for them.”
Marissa Martinez, a familiar name on the hardwood, topped Team Lihu‘e with a game-high 19 points in Lihu‘e’s 41-24 showing over the Hanakila girls.
Laura Koga and Tiana Manuel added seven and six points, respectively for Team Lihu‘e.
Siokapesi Paua finished with 10 points and Sandrea Chung added five points in the Kamikaze’s 29-6 win over the Kaua‘i Ballers, who got all of its six points from Tori Daligcon-Pomaikai.
KYBA and the county will inaugurate the Under 14 season with two games Monday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center starting at 6 p.m.
Team Lihu‘e will open the doors against the Kaua‘i Ballers starting at 6 p.m., followed by the West Kaua‘i Hornets taking on Hanakila at 7 p.m.
Tuesday night, six 12 and Under games are on tap, three taking place at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center and three tipping off at the Kapa‘a High School Gym. Games at both locations start at 6 p.m.
The Kamikaze take on Westside Basketball in a Girls 12 Under match starting at 6 p.m. at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center. Team Lihu‘e will tangle with Kaulupono-White starting at 7 p.m. and the West Kaua‘i Hornets will meet Team Lihu‘e in the 8 p.m. match, a Boys 12 Under game.
The Kaua‘i Ballers will take on Kaulupono-Blue in a 6 p.m. match at the Kapa‘a High School gym in a Girls 12 Under match. Kaua‘i Ballers will take on Westside Basketball-Blue in a Boys 12 Under match starting at 7 p.m. followed by Hanakila meeting Team Lihu‘e X in the 8 p.m. nightcap.
