LIHU‘E — Six Kaua‘i Red Raiders made the All-Tournament Team following their 2011 Wally Yonamine Foundation Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II Baseball championship, last weekend on O‘ahu.
Pitcher Shea Shimabukuro was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, going 2-0 on the mound, including a complete game in the Raiders’ 11-2 championship game win over No. 1 seed Pac-Five. Shimabukuro also threw three scoreless innings for the win in the team’s 11-1 quarterfinal victory over Kalaheo, adding two RBIs at the plate in that contest.
Joining the senior on the Div. II All-Tournament Team were Travis Koga (1B), Erin Doi (3B), Kellen Aquino (OF), Austin Oshiro (C) and Jensen Koga (P).
First baseman Travis Koga scored two runs in the opening win, then went 3 for 5 with a double, two runs and two RBIs combined in the semifinal/final doubleheader over Waipahu and Pac-Five.
Doi went 2 for 7 with a walk, a double, a run and three RBIs in the back-to-back games, after also adding a double at the plate in the Kalaheo victory.
Aquino laced a triple in the opening win, then went 2 for 6 with a walk, a double, three runs scored and an RBI in the Saturday victories.
Oshiro was 2 for 6 with two walks and three RBIs in the final two games, also remaining behind the plate for a pitching staff that gave up just five runs in 19 innings of tournament play.
Jensen Koga threw a complete-game three-hitter in the 3-2 win over Waipahu in the semifinals. He also pitched the final two innings against Kalaheo, while going 6 for 10 with a double, two walks, two runs and two RBIs at the dish in the three games.
Not on the team, but having a big week was Dreyke Smith-Butac, who went 5 for 8 with a double, a run scored and five RBIs in the three wins.
Making up the rest of the Div. II All-Tournament Team were Molokai’s Ehukai Rawlins (2B), Pac-Five’s Reyn Sugai (SS), Pac-Five’s Kellen Abe (OF), Pac-Five’s Ryan Uenten (OF) and Molokai’s David Rapanot (Util).
