Flash flood warning lifted

The National Weather Service has canceled the flash flood warning for Kaua‘i as of 8:01 p.m. Even though the heavy rains and flooding have subsided, runoff is still occurring and streams will remain elevated for several hours.

A flash flood watch for Ni‘ihau and Kaua‘i remains in effect until 6 a.m. Friday morning.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu had earlier extended a flash flood warning for Kaua‘i until 10 p.m.

At 4 p.m., a rain gauge at Kapahi reported torrential rain falling at four inches per hour. Additional heavy showers are moving over the island from the south.

A flash flood warning means flooding is occurring in streams, roads and low-lying areas. Moving to high ground is recommended.

Run-off from this storm may also cause rock and mudslides in steep terrain.
