LIHU‘E — Anyone interested in becoming a seasonal/on-call lifeguard with the Ocean Safety Bureau can apply between May 16 and 27 during normal business hours, a county news release states.
Applications are available at any county lifeguard tower or at the Kaua’i Fire Department headquarters located in the Hale Pumehana Building, 3083 Akahi Street, #101. Applications can also be downloaded from the county website, www.kauai.gov, starting Monday. Completed applications will only be accepted at the Kaua’i Fire Department headquarters.
The duties of a seasonal/on-call lifeguard include: patrol beach at an assigned tower; protect life; prevent accidents; enforce safety regulations; and assist people in distress.
Other related duties may also be required. The pay rate for a seasonal/on-call lifeguard is $12 per hour.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and a high school diploma or a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, and be willing to work weekends and holidays.
Applicants must also meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary for a seasonal/on-call lifeguard position, and pass a physical ability performance test scheduled for June 10. No make-up test will be allowed.
