LIHU‘E — Waimea High School will open its bid for a state boys volleyball title at 5 p.m. Wednesday against No. 4 seed Kohala at the McKinley High School gym on O‘ahu.
The Menehune, Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation champions, are unseeded in Division II of the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Boys State Championships in the announcement, Sunday.
Hawai‘i Baptist get the top seed for Division II and will open against Kahuku at 7 p.m. at the McKinley gym.
Castle High School gets the No. 2 seed and will open against Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday at Maryknoll School.
Lanakila Baptist will
take on the No. 3 seeded Seabury Hall at 6 p.m. at Maryknoll.
Should the Menehune advance against Kohala, Waimea will face the winner of the Hawai‘i Baptist/Kahuku matchup, 7 p.m., Thursday at McKinley in the quarterfinals of the state championships.
There are eight teams in the Division II competition and 12 teams in the Division I competition.
Punahou draws the top seed in the Division I arena followed by Moanalua getting the No. 2 seed. Waiakea High School from the Big Island is the No. 3 seed and Baldwin High School from Maui gets the No. 4 seed.
