LIHU‘E — The biggest casualty of the inclement weather this week on O‘ahu was the Division II bracket of the DataHouse Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Softball Championships.
All consolation games, as well as the third-place game between the Waimea Lady Menehune and the Waipahu Marauders, were canceled.
That puts an end to Waimea’s season, finishing with an 11-4 record.
The Lady Menehune were knocked out in Thursday’s semifinal round, losing 5-0 to Kahuku.
The only Div. II game that was played was the championship, in which No. 1 seed Pac-Five came away with the 5-0 win over No. 3 Kahuku at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Pac-Five scored single runs in the first, third, fourth, sixth and seventh innings, while holding Kahuku to just two hits. Pitcher Sofia Luczak got the win in the two-hit shutout.
Querena Natividad went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI, while Aja Keys was 2 for 3 with a home run. Alena Ho‘okano was 2 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI.
Division 1
In the Division I championship game that followed at RWSS, unseeded Castle rallied from a 4-0 deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie things up and force extra innings at 4-4.
The final result was still unknown as of press time.
Looking to ride the wave of momentum that saw it pull out the 9-7 upset against No. 1 seeded Campbell on Thursday, Castle couldn’t get its offense going against No. 2 Mid-Pac’s pitcher Keiki Carlos until the seventh. Having lost the lead and with two runners one with one out, Mid-Pac stayed alive with a double play on a line drive to move to the eighth.
