Hanakapiai – The Kaua‘i Fire Department has released the name of the 63-year-old Czech swimmer who disappeared while swimming in waters off of Kaua‘i’s north shore on April 28.
The department completed its search for Vladimir Horak, on Saturday.
Horak was swimming with friends off Hanakapiai and was reported missing by a hiker just before 1p.m.
KFD, the Kaua‘i Police Department and the U. S. Coast Guard assisted in the sea-based and aerial searches on Thursday and Friday in an attempt to locate the missing man. The search was scaled back to aerial only by Friday afternoon, and continued Saturday with no success.
No further search efforts are planned at this time. The victim was not traveling with family. His name was withheld until now until next of kin was notified
