LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Police Department is still searching for a man who is believed to be involved in Friday’s hit-and-run crash.
Police contend that Gerald Ito, 44, fled the scene after causing a major traffic collision involving three vehicles that afternoon in Kapa‘a.
Ito has no known address and police have been unable to locate him, a county press release states.
He is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 210 pounds. Ito has brown hair, brown eyes and a light complexion.
Ito matches witness descriptions of the driver of a 1993 white Ford SUV that struck a northbound Toyota pickup when making a left turn from Kipuni Way onto Kuhio Highway at about 3:40 p.m.
The collision caused the pickup to then collide with a Nissan sedan.
Two passengers of the Nissan sedan were treated at the scene and released. Both the Nissan and the Toyota pickup sustained moderate damage.
Anyone with information about Ito is urged to call KPD Dispatch at 241-171 or Crime Stoppers, 241-1887.
