The Waimea Lady Menehune are the No. 2 seed in the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Datahouse Division II Softball Championships, which will get under way Tuesday at Central O‘ahu Regional Park.
Waimea, the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation champion after its 10-3 season, won’t be on the field until Wednesday, as it receives a bye directly into the quarterfinal round.
If the Menehune came out to watch Saturday’s play-in game at Isenberg Park, they may have caught a glimpse of their opponent, as Waimea will take on the winner of the St. Francis-Honoka‘a first-round game.
The St. Francis Troubadours (7-13) were a 24-11 winner over the Kaua‘i Red Raiders in Saturday’s play-in game to get into the Division II tournament.
The top seed in the Div. II bracket is Pac-Five, which went 7-9 on the season. It will take on the winner of Moloka‘i (9-2) vs. Kalaheo (10-5).
Getting the No. 3 seed is Kahuku, which put together a perfect 14-0 season in the O‘ahu Interscholastic Association. It will take on the winner of Hana (9-2) vs. Waialua (9-5).
The final seed went to No. 4 Konawaena, going 7-9 out of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation. It awaits the winner of Waipahu (11-2) vs. Kohala (11-3).
Waipahu-Kohala and Honoka‘a-St. Francis will get underway Tuesday at 5 p.m., while the Hana-Waialua and Moloka‘i-Kalaheo matchup is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
Waimea’s quarterfinal game will be played at 7 p.m. Wednesday, as will two of the three other games. Konawaena’s matchup will be the lone 5 p.m. game.
The semifinals will take place at 1 and 3 p.m. Thursday, with Friday’s championship game slated for 7 p.m.
In Division I, action gets going Tuesday with four first-round games. The four seeded teams — No. 1 Campbell, No. 2 Mid-Pacific Institute, No. 3 Waiakea and No. 4 Lahainaluna — await their opponents for Wednesday’s quarterfinals.
