LIHU‘E — The County Auditor’s Office recently released a report auditing county energy management.
“We found that county paid about $1.3 million more for electricity in 2010 than in 2009,” County Auditor Ernesto Pasion said in a news release. “An increase this large is surprising, since county offices were closed for two days a month from July to December because of the furlough.
The audit compared the county’s energy management strategy to best practices and reviewed whether the county has implemented the Cost Control Commission’s energy-saving recommendations, the release states.
“We hope that our audit calls attention to the need for the county to make energy conservation a high priority,” Pasion said. “We are also encouraged that the administration’s audit response expresses agreement with several of the energy conservation and energy management measures recommended by the cost control commission and in the audit.”
The audit will be made available soon on the auditor’s website at www.kauai.gov/auditor/reports.
The public can review a copy of the report at all Kaua‘i neighborhood libraries.
