Kaua‘i golfer Reyn Morioka finished with the best round for the boys at a 1-over par 73, but Justin “Pono” Tokioka, ending the 36-hole qualifying tournament with a 78, ended as the top Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation individualist for the boys with a 73.25 stroke average over four matches.
The final round of the KIF qualifying tournament was played Saturday at the Wailua Golf Course where Kelli Oride, Kaua‘i High School senior, repeated her 3-under par 70 performance of last week to end as the KIF individualist for the girls with a 70.50 stroke average over four matches, all four being under-par performances.
Kaua‘i’s Taylor Viquelia, despite finishing No. 3, Saturday, ended second in the standings with a 78.25 stroke average followed by fellow Red Raider Daezsa Tomas who carded a 77 for an 83.00 stroke average.
Justin Uegawa exploded onto the Kapa‘a scene, carding his season-best score, a 3-over par 75 to lead the Kapa‘a boys. But despite the season finale, Uegawa settled for an 80.25 stroke average and sixth in the boys individualist standings.
Weston Moniz had a superb Saturday, topping the Warrior men with a 77, two strokes ahead of his 79 in the opening round, and went on to have a strong presence for the Kapa‘a boys volleyball team in its Saturday night victory.
Kenji Miyata, coming into his own in the second half of the KIF golf season, repeated his last week’s showing of 78 to end third for Kapa‘a, just one stroke back of Moniz.
Overall, Miyata finished second in the boys individualist standings with a 74.00 stroke average with Moniz ending in fourth with a 78.50 stroke average.
Waimea’s Ken Morikawa, after missing his opening round last week due to the robotics competition on the Big Island, roared back to card an 88, the best Menehune score and his season-best showing.
Ka‘imi Miyashiro and Vinda Carineo finished tied at 92 followed by Derek Callejo carding a 95 and Clifton Callejo following two strokes back at 97.
Other Red Raiders on the course for the final KIF round included Kai Adachi (85), Kenneth Chun (93), Logan Keeler (96), Braeden Robley (82) and Vance Tokita (104).
Warrior golfers on the course included Anthony Aiwohi (107), Mitchell Alves (109), Jordan Guerrero (82) who carded his season best score, Sage Lane (101), Daniel Sanchez (129) and Kawika Wellington (92).

The girls tournament will be played May 3 and 4 with the boys taking the course May 10 and 11.
Kaua‘i last captured the boys state championship in 2005 with a two-round total of 606 (310-296) at the Wailea Emerald Course. Kellen Watabu was the top individualist that year with a two-round total of 147 (76-71).
Kaua‘i girls last captured the state title in 2004 with a two-round total of 460 (229-231) at the Wailua Golf Course. Rachel Kyono was the last Kaua‘i girl state individualist, taking the title in 2001 with a two-round total of 143 (72-71) at the Kaanapali South.
