WAIMEA — Menehune pitcher Shelly Koerte hit a home run and scored twice to help fuel Waimea High School softball to a 15-2 win over Kapa‘a, Wednesday at the Waimea Canyon Park.
Koerte also notched a 3-run home run in the third inning, joining Cassandra Dupree, who slammed her second homer of the season.
With the win, Waimea improves to 8-2, tying Kaua‘i, which holds the first-round crown.
Both teams square off at Isenberg Park in a doubleheader starting at 9 a.m., Saturday.
A split will result in another tie, a Waimea sweep will force a playoff for the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation title and a Kaua‘i sweep will give the Red Raiders the outright season title.
