HANAPEPE — Kaua‘i’s 5-0, 5-0 sweep over the Waimea tennis team clinched the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation tennis team titles on Saturday at the Hanapepe tennis courts.

KIF individualists and doubles winners will be determined at the two-day qualifying meet which starts Thursday in Po‘ipu.

Jennifer Grady teamed with Jasmine Ikeda to overcome strong play from the Menehune duo of Rachel Umetsu and Dessa Rentrop to take the Girls First Doubles, 6-4, 7-5 in a match which drew a strong spectator base for both teams.
Kaua‘i’s Kari Noe teamed with Danika Thompson on the Girls Second Doubles court to defeat Waimea’s Annalissa Hartsell and Brittney Palencia, 6-1, 6-0.
Raisa Carlos teamed with Jaime Gali on the Girls Third Doubles court to prevail 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(4) over Waimea’s Mary Yasay and Shalyn Jim.
Kaua‘i girls also prevailed in the exhibition matches, taking two over Waimea as Noe Murray teamed with Gillian Gregorio to defeat Waimea’s Kiele Young and Kim Percival, 8-0 in the first exhibition match, and the Noe/Thompson duo got past Waimea’s Hartsell and Indira Safadi, 8-3 in the second match.
Waimea’s Joshua Quinlan had Jerik Centeno running on the Boys First Singles court, but Centeno kept control of the Boys First Singles match to prevail, 6-4, 6-4 over Quinlan who took the court following a strong night of volleyball against Kapa‘a, Friday night.
Kaua‘i’s Matthew Kanna defeated Kaleo Hauata, 6-3, 6-0 on the Boys Second Singles court while on the Boys First Doubles court, the Red Raider pair of Otis Llewellyn and B.J. Kai defeated Waimea’s Bradley Cano and Andrew Dutton, 6-1, 6-1.
Kaua‘i’s Lance Matsumoto and Rad Floria held off strong play from Menehune John Villanueva and John Gawaran, 7-6(6) in the opening set before going on to best the Waimea pair, 6-1 on the Boys Second Doubles court.
Matthew Mizukami wrapped up his first year of tennis by teaming with Justin Fujikawa to defeat the Menehune pair of Bryle Rivera and Mark Razalan, 6-0, 6-0 on the Boys Third Doubles arena.
Kaua‘i boys also took both of its exhibition matches, in the first, John Quisel teaming with Kurt Noe to defeat Chris Ajimura and Chris Corpuz, 8-2 and Matsumoto teaming with Mizukami in the second match to defeat Cano and Lance Cacal, 8-5.
With the completion of the KIF regular season, play starts Thursday in the two-day state qualifying tournament in Po‘ipu.
