There are about 75 spots available for football players ages 13 to 17 in the free Chad Owens All-Star Football Camp, said Tina Albao of the Lihu‘e Pop Warner Association.
Those spots can be filled on May 14, the day of the camp, starting at 10:30 a.m. at Vidinha Stadium.
Albao said the camp for youngsters 7 through 12 years old is sold out, but participants need to register on May 14 starting at 8 a.m.
The free football camp is sponsored by The Bess Route Foundation and will be led by Chad Owens, former University of Hawai‘i football standout, and 14 of his affiliates.
Albao said the roads around Vidinha Stadium will be closed due to the Kaua‘i Visitor Industry Walk taking place that morning so people are asked to come at 8 a.m. and have patience while dealing with the road closure.
All participants are required to have a mouth piece and cleats (no metal), and are asked to bring a nonperishable canned good for the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank in a coordinated effort through the Lihu‘e Pop Warner Association.
Lunch and dinner for the participants will be provided and a concession stand will be available for spectators and family members to patronize.
Albao said the Lihu‘e Pop Warner Association is holding early registration for participants in the tackle football and cheer programs.
There is a $15 discount if registration is done on Apr. 18 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Lihu‘e Neighborhood Center.
