KipuKai Kuali‘i, who placed eighth in last year’s Kaua‘i County Council race, was sworn in Tuesday during a special council meeting. Kuali‘i will fill the seat of former Councilman Derek Kawakami, who vacated his position earlier this month after Gov. Neil Abercrombie chose him to represent the 14th District in the state House, which covers Kapa‘a and the North Shore. ‘I’m humbled and honored to be here and look forward to serving the people of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau,” Kuali‘i said. ‘I’m grateful to the council and thank them from the bottom of my heart … l’m ready to start.’
