John Poehnelt, floor manager for Keoki’s Paradise, said he had a 23-hour shift during the recent tsunami warning.
Mannetti DeCosta said when she went to work, John was still there and the restaurant was open because John never closed the doors after discovering a lot of “lost” people milling around at the corner of the Po‘ipu Shopping Village after the tsunami warning was raised — he just kept Keoki’s open so people had a place to stay and use the restrooms. Great job, John!
Now, with a name like Poehnelt, is he related to Sandy Poehnelt of The Right Slice?
Speaking of The Right Slice, hats off to Regency at Puakea Chef R.J. Tolodziechi for that ono lemon meringue pie (Mary Thronas said she made it) that was on the dessert table during the Zonta Club meeting. Now the chef needs to figure out how to let people know when the next batch is because there’re a lot of people with the craving.
Kudos to Chef Mark Oyama and all his Planning Committee on another sold-out event, and kudos to Mike Dandurand for making sure everyone knew what was going on.
