LIHU‘E — The first Prince Kuhio/Police Activities League Hawai‘i State Amateur Boxing Championships were held March 25 to 27 at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall in Lihu‘e, with a number of Kaua‘i fighters representing in the various divisions.
Hosted by K-PAL, the event had 26 different classifications, ranging from as light as 60 pounds all the way up to more than 200.
The Open Novice 201-plus pound division was won by Kaua‘i’s Mahiai Naihe, representing K-PAL Central.
K-PAL West’s Jon Antony Reyes took first in the Open Novice 165-pound group, while K-PAL Central’s Chris Honorato took third.
John Santaigo-Lumabao, of K-PAL West, finished in second place in the Open Novice 141-pound division. The Open Novice 123-pound division was won by K-PAL West’s Cullen Gante-Rapozo, while K-PAL Central’s Kyron Corpuz took the title in the Open Novice 114-pound division.
Kristopher Alcos of K-PAL Central was the champ in the 13 to 14-year-old, 90-pound division, while K-PAL West’s Jesse Cardenas-Ruralio won the 9 to 10-year old, 85-pound division.
Taylor Melandish, representing Up & Up Boxing Club Kaua‘i, took first in the 11 to 12-year-old, 75-pound division, while K-PAL Central’s Crysten Kaori Kaya took second place in the same category.
Jaben Lagmay of K-PAL West won the 9 to 10-year-old, 80-pound division. Up & Up Boxing Club Kaua‘i’s Mahina Melandish won the 13 to 14-year-old, 95-pound group, while Micah Lovell Gonsalves of the same club won the 12 to 13-year-old, 75-pound division.
Hazzard McDougal of K-PAL West took second place for the 15 to 16-year-old, 141-pound division. Latisha Alo, also of K-PAL West, was second in the 15 to 16-year-old, 119-pound division.
K-PAL Central’s Makua Deblake finished second in the 13 to 14-year-old, 141-pound division, as K-PAL West’s Ronald Garania was also second in the 13 to 14-year-old, 114-pound division.
Ryan Banasihan of K-PAL West took third in the 9 to 10-year-old, 70-pound division.
