HANAMA‘ULU — The Hanama‘ulu Beach Park will be closed April 11 to 23 for a general cleanup, states a release from the Hanama‘ulu Neighborhood Association.
The HNA is partnering with the County of Kaua‘i and the county’s Department of Parks and Recreation in sponsoring this general cleanup and workday at the popular beach park.
Volunteers are needed for the General Cleanup Workday scheduled from 7 a.m. to noon, April 16. Volunteers wanting to tackle the workday as a community service project can call Eddie Sarita at 346-0090 to register.
Work clothes, work shoes and gloves are the recommended gear for volunteers. Hedge trimmers and lawnmowers will also be welcomed.
The scope of the cleanup on April 16 includes the clearing of overgrowth and bushes around the park, general landscaping, pressure washing the concrete areas of the park and painting of the pavilion restrooms and picnic tables.
Volunteers from the Kaua‘i Drug Court will be pressure washing the concrete walkways and picnic tables on April 14 in preparation for the April 16 workday.
Refreshments and lunch will be provided for volunteers through the courtesy of the Kaua‘i Beach Resort.
“This is being done by the HNA so families will be able to enjoy picnics there during the Easter season,” Sarita said in the release. “This project also coincides with the Keep America Beautiful’s ‘Great American Cleanup’ and the HNA encourages volunteers to turn out and join the effort.”
The cleanup effort is expected to be joined by Kaua‘i Police Department Capt. Kaleo Perez and some of the officers, members of the Ali‘i Motorcycle Club and the Koa Puna Motorcycle Club.
Sarita said the last major cleanup of the park was done almost three years ago in March of 2008, states the HNA newsletter.
During that cleanup, derelict cars were removed, the picnic tables were painted along with the new pavilion. General landscaping and pressure washing of the concrete areas were also performed.
