KILAUEA — Papalina-White and Papalina-Blue won its respective games, Saturday at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center during the county’s Department of Parks and Recreation 11 and Under Winter Basketball League.
Gunnar Burkman and Noah Thompson finished with eight points apiece to lead Papalina-White to a 27-22 edge over Westside Basketball who got a game-high nine points from Kelly Ragasa in the effort.
Rhylen Yadao-Purisma netted a game-high 20 points and Noah Sasil lent 17 points to lead Papalina-Blue to its 47-36 win over Team Central in the second of six games played, Saturday.
Bryce Johnson-Cormack and Kaimi Texeira led the Team Central effort with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Ayzlin Kealoha-Albrarado finished with nine points to keep the Kamikaze on its winning ways, 23-11 over Team Lihu‘e 2 who got six points from Tajh Mapuhi.
Brandon Palacio, coming from the Waimea High School program in the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation league, joined Kaulupono coach Bobby Kamakele on the bench.
But despite the young blood helping coach, Brandon’s sister Nicole finished with nine points in its 27-25 loss to Team Lihu‘e 1. Jasmine Santeli finished with seven points in the Kaulupono effort.
Brennan Suniga topped the Team Lihu‘e 1 win with eight points followed by Karl Dante and Michael Dasalia each finishing with six points.
Lepo Ula guards Kicah ACoba and Carl Mecham finished with 15 and nine points, respectively to lead the team’s 36-31 edge over the Kaua‘i Ballers who got a game-high 18 points from Kurt Napolion and Thomas Yam adding 11 points.
Triston Inanod Hawelu scored 13 points and Makana Moreno added 10 points to lead Hanakila to a 40-21 win over the West Kaua‘i Hornets who got 13 points from Irish Pascua to tie Hawelu for high-point honors.
The 11 and Under players take the floor at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center with three games on tap for Monday starting at 6 p.m.
Westside Basketball takes on Team Lihu‘e starting at 6 p.m. followed by Team Lihu‘e 2 going up against the Kaua‘i Ballers at 7 p.m. Lepo Ula tangles with Papalina-White in the finale starting at 8 p.m.
The league also plays three games, Tuesday in Kalaheo starting at 6 p.m.
