PUHI — Children and families will be in the spotlight this Saturday at Kukui Grove Center.
“This year is the first time the Sequenced Transition to Education in the Public Schools Parent and Child Fair will be held in conjunction with the March for Babies event with the March of Dimes,” said Cathy Shanks of Parents Attentive to Children. “The March for Babies will take place earlier in the morning and should be winding down when the Parent and Child Fair is ready to open at 11 a.m.”
Cheryl Ann Farrell, event coordinator for the March for Babies, said during the launch of this year’s program that this is the first time the March of Dimes is teaming with STEPS because both are geared for young children and families.
The March of Dimes will be hosting an Early Banking Nite from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Rob’s Good Times Grill where team captains will be able to turn in monies raised, enter for prize drawings and enjoy pupu and special drinks ahead of the event, Farrell said.
Shanks said there will be some overlap as the March for Babies winds down and the Parent and Child Fair ramps up.
“We’ll probably have some of the exhibitors and vendors ready to go with activities and displays ahead of the actual 11 a.m. opening,” Shanks said.
The fair will offer entertainment, activities and fun designed for families and young children.
Some of these include face painting, Keiki ID and car seat safety checks by the Kaua‘i Police Department and free vision and hearing screenings.
The Kapa‘a High School Jr. ROTC will open the morning, joined by the Kapa‘a Middle School Choir and ‘Ukulele Band, which recently returned from its trip to Disneyland and the Heritage Music Festival.
The Showtime Characters, headliners at the weekly keiki event offered by Kukui Grove, Tsunami Taiko, Aloha Dance Studio Co., Cary and Wendy Valentine, Karen Dickinson, and more will offer an array of entertainment.
Grove Farm and the mall have supported the many volunteers who put on the annual fair.
