LIHU‘E — The county is now offering a year-round battery recycling program for residents and visitors, officials said in a news release Monday.
The following types of batteries are being collected through this program:
• Dry cell – e.g. A, AA, AAA, C, and D cell batteries
• Lithium – e.g. camera and cell phone batteries
• NiCad – rechargeable batteries
Battery drop-off service is available Monday to Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Kaua‘i Resource Center. The center is located at 3460 Ahukini Rd. near the Lihu‘e Airport.
The batteries must be separated according to type and placed in the appropriate drums inside KRC’s main building.
Commercially generated batteries are not eligible for the household battery recycling program.
Used car batteries and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) backup batteries may be taken to the Lihu‘e PS&D Tires/NAPA Auto Parts store for recycling.
