Emilio C. Diaz of Kilauea died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on March 5, 2011, at age 97. Born in the Philippines, he retired form the Princeville Golf Course as greens-keeper.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Esperanza Belmonte, and son, Benjamin Diaz.
He is survived by his daughters, Purificacion (Lawrence) Dizon of Lawa‘i; Theresita (Dr. Renato) Aoanan of Canada; Rolinda (Felix) Deyro of Kalaheo; daughter-in-law, Paciencia Diaz of Canada; sons, Dr. Arnulfo (Dr. Luz) Diaz of Kapa‘a, Alfredo Diaz of Florida; grandchildren, Michael Diaz of Chicago, Edgar (Eva) Deyro of Las Vegas; Gwendolyn (Eric) Crawford of Seattle, Leolani Diaz of San Francisco, Adrian (Valerie) Diaz of Colorado, Jeremy (Danielle) Diaz of Texas, Janelle Hacault of Canada; great-grandchildren, Beau Diaz, Xavier Diaz, Kaden Emilio Diaz, Gabriel Diaz, Alexis Diaz, Dylan Deyro, Jonah D. Crawford; numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 26, at the Immaculate Conception Church with visitation from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Garden.

Donald Eugene Kuebler of Princeville died March 14, 2011, at home at age 75. Born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on July 22, 1935, he was the owner of Spinning Dolphin Designs in Hanalei and was an artist and avid sailor.
He is survived by his wife, Melanie Kuebler of Princeville; daughters, Rebecca (Scott) Eitel of Chico, Calif., Stephanie Lee; son, Travis (Kerry) Wilker of Long Beach, Calif.; grandsons, Dayne Eitel, Randy Eitel, Kane Wilker; granddaughter, Joey Wilker; great-grandsons, Griffen Eitel, Mason Eitel; great-granddaughters, Claire Eitel, Madison Eitel.
A private service will be held at a later date.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Kuebler family with arrangements.
Judy Kubota
Judy Fujiko Kubota of Waimea died Feb. 21, 2011, at The Queen’s Medical Center. Born March 29, 1928, in Koloa, Kaua‘i, she was a retired administrative assistant at the Waimea Dispensary.
She is survived by husband Yoshio Kubota; daughters Rhonda Isekawa, Corrine Lau; son Stace Kubota; sisters Nobuko Tomomitsu, Molly Emiko Ikeda, Sally Tatsuko Lee; brother Harlan “Bumpo” Kinoshita; and six grandchildren.
Service will be held March 26 at the Waimea United Church of Christ. Visitation at noon, service begins at 1 p.m.
Family requests casual attire.

Guillermo “Gimo” Calano Balagat of Hanama‘ulu died March 13, 2011, at age 88. Born June 25, 1922, in Dingras, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he retired from Lihu‘e Plantation.
He was preceded in death by his son, Guillermo Balagat, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Marina Balagat of Hanama‘ulu; children, Ceny (Josephine) Balagat of Killeen, Texas, Grace (Henry) Hee of Hanama‘ulu, George (Puanani) Balagat of Lihu‘e; brother, Feliciano (Mary) Balagat of Dingras, Philippines; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Sarah “Aunty Sarah” Wong Kelekoma Sheldon of Anahola died March 13, 2011, at age 99 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. Born Feb. 13, 1912, in Hanalei, she retired as a school teacher and assistant manager of Coco Palms Resort.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry C. K. Sheldon, and son, Samuel W. K. Sheldon.
She is survived by her sister, Elsie Bruce of Pacifica, Calif.; sons, Henry K. (Gladys) Sheldon, Thomas L. Sheldon, Richard (Jeannie) Sheldon; hanai son, Albert (Setsuko) Fukushima; daughter, Joyanne (James) Dilwith; grandchildren, Carol (Wayne) Kahanu, William (Alika) Sheldon, Kunane Sheldon, Bruce Sheldon, Mel Fukushima, Clinton (Terrie) Fukushima, Ada (Hiroshi) Kawatsu, Sam (Marianne) Sheldon, Kamalu (Irene) Sheldon, Kalani Addington, Cherie Logan, Momi (Fig) Micthell, Keala (Morris) Unutoa, Dan Sheldon, Brianne (Jerry) Shiroma; 25 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; numerous extended family, friends and neighbors.
Funeral services will be on Friday, March 25, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints – Kapa‘a Ward. Viewing is at 9 a.m.; services at 11 a.m. with burial to follow. Family requests aloha attire or Sunday best.

Shigeko Yamashiro of Kapa‘a died Feb. 9, 2011, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 86. Born on April 29, 1924, in Ko‘olau, Kaua‘i, she was a cook with Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by her daughters, Sue Ann Takata and Teri Yamashiro, both of Kapa‘a; brothers, Fujio (Edith) Shito and Tokio (Sally) Shito, both of Honolulu; brothers-in-law, Ted Matsushita of Honolulu, Albert Woo of San Francisco, Calif.; sister-in-law, Jessie Shito of Maui; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were private.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Howard Gowen
Howard H. Gowen died March 5, 2011, at his home in Wailua at age 81. Born on Feb. 17, 1930, in Philadelphia, he was a retired banker.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila Gowen of Seattle and Kaua‘i, and brother, Francis Gowen of Philadelphia.
Services are private.
