KOLOA — As a couple vowed “I do” along the oceanfront lawn of Sheraton Kaua‘i Resort Saturday, the drone of construction equipment sporadically drowned out gentle guitar music.
Kaua‘i’s Sheraton, one of the island’s premier resort destinations, is in the process of a $15.9 million renovation of the common areas of the property.
“Demolition began a couple of weeks ago,” said Sheraton Kaua‘i Director of Sales and Marketing Alvin Wong, “and we expect to be finished by September. It’s a total remodel concept.”
Areas under renovation include: the ocean wing’s courtyard, lobby and pool, the spa and fitness center and restaurants.
Wong said employees are not being laid off during renovations but rather absorbed where needed.
The Point and Shells restaurants will be combined into a RumFire restaurant with nine fire pits, similar to the Sheraton’s in Waikiki.
The project was awarded to Case and Associates General Contractors based in Houston, Texas.
