KALAHEO — Noah Sasil scored 30 of Papalina-Blue’s 38 points in a 38-25 win over the Kaua‘i Ballers in the first of three 11 and Under Winter Basketball League games, Tuesday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Hosted by the county’s Dept. of Parks and Recreation, Sheryl Tomas dropped eight points and Kalia Shimabukuro bulled for six points to lead the Kamikaze to a 27-19 edge over Kaulupono in a match where the game was much closer than the final score indicated.
Kicah Acoba netted 14 points and Justin Fune finished with 10 points to lead Lepo Ula to a 34-11 win over Team Lihu‘e 2 in the nightcap.
Jaymond Yadao added five points for the Lepo Ula win.
Tajh Mapuhi, big man for Lihu‘e, finished with four points with Blaise Banquel and Zachary Hee each adding a pair in the effort.
In the tight matchup between Papalina-Blue and the Kaua‘i Ballers, Bill Souza and Blake Lewis fueled the scoring following Sasil’s lead with four and two points, respectively.
Kurt Napolian topped the Kaua‘i Ballers scoring with 11 points, followed by Makela Matayoshi adding six points and Hunter Bethel finishing with four points.
Ayzlin Kealoha-Albarado finished with four points to follow Tomas and Shimabukuro in the Kamikaze scoring.
Kiarra Palacio topped the Kaulupono offense with 11 points, followed by Taegan Keep with four points and Shania Kahepu‘u, demonstrating a lot of hustle in heavy traffic, ending with a pair.
The 11 and Under league takes the floor Saturday with six games on tap starting at 9 a.m. when Papalina-White takes on the Kaua‘i Ballers at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
That game will be followed by Lepo Ula taking on the Kamikaze starting at 10 a.m., followed by Kaulupono going up against Westside Basketball at 11 a.m.
Team Central takes on Hanakila starting at noon, followed by the West Kaua‘i Hornets matching up against Team Lihu‘e 2 starting at 1 p.m. Papalina-Blue wraps up the day against Team Lihu‘e starting at 2 p.m.
