KALAHEO — Bryce Johnson-Cormack scored 11 points to lead Team Central to a 30-29 nail-biter in the final of three games, Monday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Kaiea Miguel added eight points and Ryan Yavinsky finished with six points in the one point win over Westside Basketball, which was led by Kasen Castro and Kelly Ragasa’s six-point contributions. Avery Miguel finished with five points in the effort.
Earlier in the night, Irish Pascua ended with a game-high 21 points, but the West Kaua‘i Hornets could not overcome the three-way strength of Team Lihu‘e, who stayed ahead 43-33 in a game which was tied at least three times.
West Kaua‘i’s Yves Villanueva and Keatin Mariano-Hardy each finished with four points in the effort, Mariano-Hardy making his buckets seem easy.
Brennan Suniga topped the Lihu‘e scoring with 18 points, followed by Karl Dante hustling for 13 points. Michael Dasalia, appearing to be in the right places for key boards, added 10 points.
The powerful guard Lexton Camat fueled the Hanakila 40-23 win over Papalina-White with 14 points. Triston Inanod-Hawelu was key on defense, getting up close on both Trey Taba and Noah Thompson throughout the night.
He contributed a dozen points with Daniel Yabes netting 10 points to round out the win.
Taba and Thompson topped the Papalina-White effort with eight points apiece, both guards leading the whiteshirts through a tough first half where they stayed with Hanakila.
Tavis Miguel rounded out the Papalina-White effort with seven points.
The county’s Dept. of Parks and Recreation 11 and Under Winter Basketball league next takes the floor Thursday night with three games on tap starting at 6 p.m. at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center.
Papalina-Blue opens the action against Hanakila starting at 6 p.m., followed by the West Kaua‘i Hornets going up against the Kaua‘i Ballers at 7 p.m. Westside Basketball will tangle with the Kamikaze in the nightcap starting at 8 p.m.
