The Waimea tennis teams took 4-1 wins in both the boys and girls divisions, Saturday at the Hanapepe tennis courts during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation matches.
Kapa‘a’s first singles in the boys, Chas Okamoto was the sole Warrior win, defeating Joshua Quinlan, 6-0, 6-0.
The Warrior pair of Alexis Valdez and Sierra Mayer, playing in the Girls first doubles, also posted the sole Kapa‘a win, defeating the Menehune pair of Dessa Rentrop and Annalissa Hartsell.
Joshua Ponting of Waimea opened the string of four wins by taking Kapa‘a’s Shawn Rabaino, 6-2, 6-1 in the Boys second singles.
Waimea’s Bryle Rivera and Bradley Cano went on to defeat the Warrior pair of Reggie Agaran and Justin Medina, 6-1, 6-2 in the Boys first doubles.
Andrew Dutton teamed with John Gawaran to get past Kapa‘a’s Ryan Lopez and Jarrod Shinn, 6-4, 6-4 for the Boys second doubles, and Waimea’s John Villanueva and Kaleo Hauata defeated Kapa‘a’s Andrew Obiano and Charles Kong, 6-0, 6-3.
Host Waimea split the Boys consolation matches, taking the first when Mark Razalan and Chris Corpuz got past Shawn Rabaino and Kekoa Kahaunaele, 7-5.
Kapa‘a’s Medina and Agaran defeated the Menehune pair of Chris Ajimura and Lance Cacal, 6-4 in the second match.
Waimea’s No. 1 Girls singles, Lani-Rae Green, coming off a strong showing in the recent Charity Doubles Tournament, took the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kapa‘a’s Jamie Brun.
Waimea’s Brittney Barreira took the No. 2 Girls singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kapa‘a’s Jazzerie Taeza.
In the Girls second doubles, Waimea’s Brittney Palencia teamed with Shantel Rita to defeat Kapa‘a’s Kara Lee Higa ande Sawalak Khae-Chawat, 6-1, 6-4, and in the Girls third doubles, Waimea’s Chantelle Carveiro teamed with Mary Yasay to defeat Kapa‘a’s Anuhea Panui and Nicole Bofelli, 6-2, 6-2.
Kaua‘i High School’s matches with Island School were re-scheduled through mutual agreement.
KIF tennis players next return to the courts on March 26 when Waimea travels to the Kaua‘i Lagoons courts against Kaua‘i, and Kapa‘a travels to the Kaua‘i Community College courts against Island School.
Both matches start at 10 a.m., and the public is invited to view the competition at no charge.
