KAPA‘A — An alleged slip of a driver’s foot sent a Mustang convertible into the front window of a Kapa‘a law office, Monday afternoon, causing myriad damage to the building.
“Fortunately, nobody got hurt,” attorney Robert Grinpas said.
Just before 1:45 p.m., a 1994 red convertible driven by a 56-year-old Princeville man crashed into the waiting room of the law offices of Grinpas and Tim Tobin, at 4-1191 Kuhio Highway Suite B.
Grinpas said the Mustang took out a three-paned window and furniture in the waiting room and moved one interior wall about six feet.
Grinpas was working in a back office at the time of the crash. “I though it was an explosion,” he said.
When he came out to look, he found the convertible inside the waiting room.
According to initial reports from the Kaua‘i Police Department, the driver had been turning into a parking stall in the building’s parking lot and accidentally pressed the gas pedal, causing his car to crash into the building.
The man was not a client.
“I didn’t know the person. It’s not like someone was trying to get the lawyers or something,” said Grinpas, adding that the driver was very apologetic.
The Mustang suffered front-end damage.
Grinpas said his landlady is working to have the hole in front of his office walled up.
“If they make it secure … we will be able to function,” Grinpas said. “(It’s) not as pretty as it was.”
An estimate of damages was not available at press time.
