LIHU‘E — A Kilauea man is receiving care in Honolulu following a head-on collision on Kalihiwai Bridge last week.
The 60-plus-year-old resident is in critical condition at The Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu, where he moved to the Intensive Care Unit following a stay at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, said county spokeswoman Sarah Blane.
The man was hurt during a heavy downpour on the night of March 3 after the southbound Nissan pickup truck he was driving crossed the center line at the north end of the bridge on Kuhio Highway.
The truck collided head-on with an oncoming 1990 Ford Econoline van, driven by 43-year-old Paul Marshall of Princeville.
Neither vehicle had passengers.
“It is undetermined at this time if weather was a contributing factor,” Blane said last week.
The investigation is ongoing.
