If you want to get a taste of St. Patrick’s Day before March 17, just go to LBC Lounge, in Lihu‘e’s bowling alley, and order a “Green Hornet.”
The colorful drink packed with flavors will put you right in the “Erin go Bragh” mood.
Debra Kuali‘i is a hardworking mother of three grownups, and already has four grandchildren. But it seems like this former state bowling champion has yet to age.
Debra has won the state championship in 2000, taking home three titles. She won the single, team and double title on category B, for bowlers who have a 150-and-below point average.
Debra scored 256 out of 300 possible points in the final, bringing the title to the Garden Island. In 2004 her daughter also took the state championship in category B, proving that bowling runs in the Kuali‘i family.
But bowling is not all that this gorgeous grandma does. The LBC Lounge food and beverage manager still finds time to garden and fish. Debra brags that she once caught a four-pound moi.
The moi, indigenous to Hawai‘i, averages 1.5 pounds, but can reach over 10 pounds. The state record is nine-pounds-eight-ounces, and belongs to an O‘ahu fisherman. But there are some fishermen stories of 20-pounders being caught.
LBC Lounge is open from 4:30 p.m. to around 11 p.m., depending on business. On Friday and Saturday, Rock-n-Bowl nights, a DJ will put you in a dancing mood from 7 to 11:30 p.m. On Thursday and Sunday LBC Lounge is closed.
