Among the topics covered in the training: the role of the chair, effective meeting management, Robert’s Rules of Order and parliamentary procedures.
“The participants rated this training a 4.25 on a possible 5-point scale,” said John Isobe, Boards and Commissions administrator. “I’m glad we were able to meet the training objectives and address the needs of our dedicated and valued volunteer board and commission members who give so freely of their time.”
The board and commission members who participated: Leland Kahawai and Roy Oyama of the Board of Water Supply; Patrick Stack, Charter Review Commission; Ryan de la Pena and Roy Morita, Civil Service Commission; and Dirk Apao, Cost Control Commission.
Also in attendance: Ronnie Lemn, Drug Action Team; Basilio Fuertes, Fire Commission; Danita Aiu and David Helder, Historic Preservation Review Commission; William Gibson, Liquor Control Commission; and Tessie Kinnaman, Open Space Commission.
County employees who took part in the training: Brenda Jose, Theresa Koki and Kalawaia Lee, Anti-Drug Program; and Nani Sadora, Open Space Commission specialist.
Established in 2006 through a charter amendment, the Boards and Commissions Office provides administrative and operational support to the various county boards and commissions. It is also responsible for planning, developing and coordinating orientation and training programs for boards and commission members.
The next training is scheduled for Wednesday, March 9. It will be an orientation for board and commission members.
