PO‘IPU — Kelli Oride shot an even par 72 to lead the Kaua‘i High School to a sweep of the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation golf season, Saturday at the renovated Po‘ipu Bay Golf Course.
Justin “Pono” Tokioka topped the boys field with a 77 followed two stroke back by Braeden Robley at 79 to lead the Red Raider boys who finished with a team total 329 to earn three points in the standings.
Oride was followed by Daezsa Tomas and Taylor Viquelia each carding an 83 to finish with a team total 238 and a point in the standings.
Waimea saw returning golfer Mariah Paiste card a 95 and Kawena Warren posted a 119.
Meleane Moala of Kapa‘a was the sole Warrior female golfer, but no score was posted.
Tokioka had his challenges with the renovated course, rebounding from a lost ball on No. 1 to rattle the stick on No. 2 from his second shot that popped out of the gulley.
Following Tokioka and Robley, Reyn Morioka (83) and Kai Adachi (90) accounted for the team scoring.
Vance Tokita (105), Kenneth Chun (108), and Logan Keeler (85) were the other Red Raiders on the field.
Weston Moniz (84) topped the Kapa‘a team scoring of 356 and two points for second place. He was followed two strokes back by Kenji Miyata (86), Jordan Guerrero (92) and Justin Uegawa (94). Mitchell Alves (94) tied with Uegawa and was joined by Anthony Aiwohi (102) and Kawika Wellington (112) on the field.
Clifton Callejo and Tresten Nakashima each carded 95 to lead the Waimea boys team scoring that came in at 392 for third place and a point in the standings.
Following the Menehune leaders, Ka‘imi Miyashiro (99) and Derek Callejo (103) accounted for the team scoring.
Camden Nakashima (96), Vinda Carineo (99) and Ken Morikawa (107) were the other Menehune on the course, Kaua‘i representative and former Menehune golf coach Dee Morikawa and her husband Ken making the No. 2 in time to see the tail end of the Menehune boys coming up the fairway.
Daniel Miller carded an 86 as the sole Island School golfer during the KIF opening round.
Action moves to the Wailua Golf Course, Saturday with the first group going out starting at 11:30 a.m.
