The game, which was the longest for UH since 2008, appeared to be headed for a pitchers’ duel as starters Connor Little (UH) and Cole Green (UT) both pitched shutout ball through six innings. Both teams notched their first runs in the seventh inning.
The Longhorns appeared to break the game wide open with three runs in the eighth inning. Kevin Lussen’s (1 for 3, two RBIs) two-run base hit helped UT build a 4-1 lead.
The bottom half of the eighth inning saw UH load the bases on a walk and a hit batsman. Swasey cleared the bases with a three-run double to tie the game.
The game went scoreless until the bottom of the 15th inning. Peterson singled up the middle, then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Michael Blake, then to third on a wild pitch. He scored on Knebel’s first pitch to Matt Harrison (0-1).
The ‘Bows and Longhorns conclude their series today. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
