KAPA‘A — Two people were injured in a head-on collision that closed the Kapa‘a bypass road for nearly an hour late Wednesday afternoon.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a red Nissan Frontier, driven by a 45-year-old woman from Lihu‘e, was traveling north on the Kapa‘a bypass road when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a white Chevrolet pickup, a county spokeswoman said in an e-mail to The Garden Island.
The collision happened just south of the Kapa‘a bypass roundabout.
The name of the woman and the 39-year-old Kapa‘a man who drove the truck were unavailable.
Police arrived on scene at 3:52 p.m. and closed the north and south bound lanes of the bypass road until approximately 4:45 p.m.
Although they had no visible injuries, both drivers complained of back pain. Medics took them to Wilcox Hospital for further treatment. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
