SALT POND — Kaua‘i celebrated the Presidents’ Day weekend in style, receiving visits from royalty.
“I’ve been involved with the church which has been doing similar outreach on O‘ahu for about six years,” said Jalee Fuselier, 2010 Miss Hawai‘i. “This is my third visit to the Church on the Beach here.”
Fuselier was joined by her sister Janee as they joined members of the Kaua‘i Bible Church in hosting the monthly services Sunday at Salt Pond Beach Park.
“She met with the children and even performed some songs,” said one of the church members, trying to hasten the breakdown as threatening clouds hung over the crowded beach park.
But Fuselier was not the only royalty on the island as a pair of Big Island 2011 Miss Hawai‘i contenders graced the dedication of the Kaua‘i Police Activities League youth center Saturday in Kapa‘a.
Kaua‘i Police Capt. Mike Contrades said he was occupied with the business of getting the building’s blessing done, but had time to chaperone Tatiana Boteilho, the 2011 Miss Aloha Hawai‘i, and Lacy Deniz, the 2011 Miss Kona Coffee.
“They both said they wanted to come over and help with the dedication,” Contrades told the audience which overflowed the tents set up for the celebration of the new youth center.
Joining Boteilho and Deniz at the K-PAL youth center dedication was Tioni Tam Sing who was crowned the First Runner Up in the 2011 Miss Garden Isle/Miss Kaua‘i scholarship pageant, Feb. 12, at the Kaua‘i Community College Performing Arts Center.
Tam Sing, who wowed the audience with her rendition of a Celine Dion number from “Titanic,” was scheduled to perform during lunch following the K-PAL dedication.
“I was a former Miss Kona Coffee,” Tam Sing said. “We’re all friends, so when they said they were coming, I joined the group.”
Jalee said she was originally scheduled to appear at the Feb. 12 pageant where Shannon Dresser was named the 2011 Miss Garden Isle and Kona-Kai Wilson was named the 2011 Miss Kaua‘i.
“I was going to come to that pageant,” Jalee said. “But I just couldn’t find a flight.”
Boteilho, Deniz, Dresser, and Wilson are qualified to participate in the 2011 Miss Hawai‘i scholarship pageant where Jalee will relinquish her crown to the 2011 Miss Hawai‘i.
