LIHU‘E — The honors keep coming for University of Hawai‘i second baseman Kolten Wong. He was named to the 2011 Perfect Game USA Preseason Baseball All-America First-Team, his fourth preseason all-america selection this season.
Perfect Game USA is devoted to furthering the development and career of the youth baseball player, reads a release from the UH athletic department.
To that end, Perfect Game USA produces the very highest national level individual player showcases and team tournaments all over the United States.
In 2010, Wong ranked second on the team with a .357 batting average, a team-leading 89 hits and 57 runs scored. The Hilo native also had 15 doubles, seven home runs and 40 RBIs in leading the Rainbows to their first Western Athletic Conference title since 1992 and first NCAA Regional appearance since 2006.
In the WAC Tournament, Wong batted .500 with three home runs, a triple, a double, eight RBIs and 10 runs scored in earning Most Outstanding Player honors.
Over the summer, Wong competed in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League and was named the league’s Most Valuable Player and an All-Star. He finished the league with a .341 batting average, with 22 stolen bases, 19 runs, 11 RBIs, six doubles, and three home runs.
The Rainbows open the 2011 season Friday, hosting ninth-ranked University of Oregon. Game one of the four-game series is set for 6:35 p.m.
