Kapa‘a High School boys basketball team opens its bid for a state Division II title, Thursday against University High School starting at 5 p.m. at the Kaimuki High School gym on O‘ahu.
With just eight teams in the Hawaiian Airlines Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Boys Basketball State Championships, Division II, the Warriors under coach Philip Baclayon earned the No. 4 seed in the division.
The reigning Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation Champions, earning its title following a nail-biting double overtime win over Kaua‘i High School last Monday, will advance to face the winner of the top-seeded Farrington Governors and St. Joseph match which will unfold at 7 p.m., Thursday at the Bulldogs’ gym.
Second seed in Division II is Pahoa from the Big Island who will face the McKinley Tigers at the Kalani High School gym, Thursday at 7 p.m.
Island Pacific earned the third seed in Division II, opening its state bid against Seabury Hall at 5 p.m., Thursday, also at the Kalani gym.
Iolani High School gets the top seed in Division 1 followed by Moanalua seeded No. 2. Kamehameha-Hawai‘i earns the No. 3 seed followed by Lahainalua of Maui getting the No. 4 seed.
Teams in Division I include the top four seeds as well as Mililani, Radford, Kahuku, Hilo, Academy of the Pacific, Roosevelt, Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama, and Baldwin high schools.
