LIHU‘E — The Garden Island welcomes the arrival of two new employees to the newspaper: cops and courts reporter Jessica Musicar and controller Kellie Good.
Musicar is the former North Bend beat reporter for The World newspaper in Coos Bay, Ore., where she developed a passion for covering crime.
“We welcome the years of crime reporting experience and professionalism Jessica brings to the table,” TGI Managing Editor Nathan Eagle said. “She will be a valuable asset to the paper and, in turn, the community as she delivers the crucial news happening daily in the courts and police scene on Kaua‘i.”
Musicar said, “I hope to improve communications and relationships with police, local hospitals, the fire department and the community at large. I hope to tell the stories of victims, so the whole community can share in the human experience.”
She is a graduate of the University of California Irvine and studied journalism at Palomar Community College in San Marcos, Calif.
In her free time, Musicar loves roller derby and has already joined the the Garden Island Renegades team.
Good, a University of Phoenix graduate with 20 years of accounting experience, moved to Kaua‘i from Augusta, Ga., to join TGI.
“Kellie is a talented accounting and finance professional with a diverse background that will enhance our management team and ensure that we continue to deliver excellent customer service through our finance department,” TGI Publisher Randy Kozerski said. “Kellie is a great fit for the community and for The Garden Island.”
Good and her husband Danny married in October and visited Kaua‘i on their honeymoon.
“We decided this is where we wanted to live and started looking for opportunities on the island,” she said. “The lifestyle, the people, how friendly everyone was is just like southern hospitality.”
