An unknown woman crashed her Nissan van on Kaumualii Highway early this morning, totaling both the vehicle and a sign for the Kilohana Plantation.
As of 10:30 a.m., the wreck – surrounded by police tape – and the wooden sign remained on the side of the highway, near Nuhou Street.
Pepe Trask, general manager of the Kauai Plantation Railway, said a fellow employee of Kilohana learned from police dispatchers that the crash occurred around 3:30 a.m.,
that a woman had been driving, and she’d refused medical assistance.
The sign, he added, is a 25-year-old landmark. That’s the same age as the Kilohana Plantation’s transformation into a destination point for visitors.
“The sign is completely destroyed and her car is probably likewise.”
